My New Purpose

What is our new purpose in Christ?

Study

In each verse below, what purpose are we given and why?

1 Corinthians 6:20

For you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Matthew 5:16

Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.”

Matthew 28:18-20

Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Our purpose is to...

  1. Glorify God by worshipping Him through faith, love, and obedience in every aspect of our life. (1 Cor. 6:20)
  2. Love and serve people around you so that they see God in you and He is exalted because others see the love of Christ in you. (Matt. 5:16)
  3. Be a witness to a lost world by sharing the Gospel with others until Christ returns. (Acts 1:8)
  4. Fulfill the Great Commission—to make disciples of all nations. (Matt. 28:18-20)

Discussion

  1. How do you plan to use your life to glorify God?
  2. How can you love and serve the people that God has put in your life?
  3. What are some ways you can share the Gospel with the people that God has put in your life?
  4. How can you use your calling to help fulfill the Great Commission?

Final Thoughts

Every Christian is in the ministry. Whether it is vocational or non-vocational, every Christian is in the ministry and can glorify and proclaim Jesus with their unique calling.

“There is no higher calling or greater privilege known to man than being involved in helping fulfill the Great Commission.”
